The recent AGM brought to light Mike Cannon-Brookes the Australian tech billionaire financing an ambitious $30 billion Sun Cable project that would create the world's first underwater power cable to transport solar electricity from Darwin to Singapore.

C annon-Brookes takes the reins of this subsea cable of such enormous size, connecting Australia and Asia through a major underwater 4,300-kilometre cable which is to deliver more than 20 gigawatts of energy by 2030 from an Australian solar farm in northern Australia and finally entrenches the country as the leader in clean energy.

This program will create 14,300 new jobs and strengthen research and manufacturing in renewable technologies, bringing significant economic benefits to Northern Australia. The Australian Minister for Environment Tanya Plibersek said, "This project will play a fundamental role in helping transform Australia into a renewable energy superpower.".

However, the project ultimately awaits the approval of the Indigenous stakeholders of Australia, Indonesia, and Singapore. Based on this, the company is prepared to advance to further phases of planning development. It plans to reach the final investment decision by the year 2027.

Mike Cannon-Brookes, co-founder and co-CEO at Atlassian, is now worth an estimated $10.7 billion. For his part, Forbes said he invests in renewable energy and also gives to philanthropic causes that counter climate change. Other than being a shareholder of Sun Cable, he is also a shareholder of AGL Energy, the Australian utility firm.
